Jim Bjerring Linear Ranking Tournaments
(Narrow Court Doubles)
- These Linear Ranking Tournaments were developed by former Canadian Olympic Women's Volleyball Assistant Coach, Jim Bjerring. They are computer generated doubles formats where every player plays with everyone once and against everyone twice.
- The games are timed. At the end of each game the winning team reports the difference of the score, and the two winning players get a "W" for the game win and a "+ (# of points difference.)" The players of the losing team get an "L" and the "- points difference."
- The ranking is determined by total wins and, in the case of ties, the point difference breaks the tie.
- If there is a tie when time runs out, the first team who scored the tying point wins (+0.)
- Depending on total numbers of participants, the formula changes so that every player plays with everyone once, and against everyone twice.
- At the end of the tournament there is a linear ranking of the players. We run two tournaments, one on each court.
- The bottom line: there is plenty of play and it is a hoot!
